Usage and tokens
Two views of the same question. The usage pill asks a CLI for its own usage figures. Tokens charts what your agents spent, per day and per agent, from the logs on your disk.
The usage pill#
- The gauge at the top right. After a check it shows the CLI's logo and when its limit resets, such as “resets 6pm”. Click it for the details.
- It works with Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, Kimi, Amp, Copilot and OpenCode. Grok is not supported. It opens on your default agent.
- Bars show the percentage used and when each window resets; they turn amber from 75 percent and red from 90. Claude Code and Codex also show an activity heatmap and the facts their own stats screens print, such as favorite model, total tokens, sessions and streaks for Claude Code, and lifetime tokens, peak, streak and longest task for Codex.
- A terminal icon switches between the parsed view and the screen as the CLI printed it.
How a check works#
Symvibe starts your CLI in a short-lived terminal you do not see, inside an empty folder of its own (never your repo), types the CLI's usage command, reads the screen and closes it. No prompt is sent to a model.
| CLI | What Symvibe types |
|---|---|
| Claude Code | /usage |
| Codex | /status, then /usage |
| Gemini | /stats |
| Kimi, Copilot | /usage |
| Amp, OpenCode | amp usage, opencode stats |
- When the board opens, a check runs in the background if the last one is more than three minutes old. Opening the popover checks again if the last result is more than 30 seconds old; Ask again checks right away.
- A check started in the background never answers a CLI's questions. A check you start, by opening the popover or with Ask again, can skip an update prompt or trust Symvibe's own empty folder by itself; any other prompt you answer yourself in a console of that CLI.
- With profiles, chips switch between accounts; Use for new lanes makes one the account new consoles use.
The reset chime#
SettingsGeneral has Chime when usage resets, on by default. Play is Only after 100% by default, or Always, and the sound is Glass unless you pick Ping, Tink, Pop, Purr or Submarine. It plays shortly after the reset time the pill showed, even with Symvibe in the background.
Tokens#
- Open it with the chart icon in the usage popover's header.
- It reads only the log files on your Mac: Claude Code's under
~/.claude/projects, Codex's under~/.codex/sessions, and OpenCode's local database. Gemini and Grok are not covered, nor the folders of account profiles. Nothing leaves your Mac. - Tiles for the last 30 days, the busiest day and the top agent; a chart of tokens per day by agent, switchable between all tokens, input plus output, and output only; and a list by agent for the last 30 days or all time.
Not a bill#
These are snapshots from the CLIs and their logs. Your provider's dashboard is the source of truth for billing and the exact limits.
