Repos and workspaces

A repo is a folder you track. Each repo opens on a board with one or more workspaces, the tabs along the top. This page covers both, and how Symvibe keeps your boards safe on disk.

The home screen#

  • The repos list shows every folder you track, with its git branch. The repo you opened or added most recently carries an active badge.
  • Click a row, or move with the arrow keys and press Return, to open that repo's board.
  • The compose bar holds a repo pill, a preset pill and Dispatch. Dispatch opens the repo; with a preset armed, it also lays the preset out on the workspace that opens. It reads Resume when the repo is already open and no preset is armed.
  • The sun and moon button in the top bar switches between the OG and Light themes.

Add, rename and remove repos#

Add
Click the Add a repo card, drop one or more folders on it, or press ⌘O. Adding a folder you already track just selects it.
Rename
Double-click the repo's name, up to 24 characters. Return saves, Esc cancels. Only the name Symvibe shows changes; the folder keeps its own.
Remove
Hover the row and open its menu, or select it and press Delete. Symvibe always asks first. Files stay on disk; consoles running in that repo end.

Cloning or creating a repository is offered during first launch. After that, clone with git in a console and add the folder.

Workspaces#

  • + beside the tabs adds a workspace. Double-click a tab to rename it, up to 24 characters.
  • The close button on a tab closes that workspace after asking. Its consoles end; the board is kept in the archive.
  • Switching tabs, or switching repos, leaves every console running in the background.
  • From the command bar: go to workspace 2, new workspace called QA, rename this workspace to Backend, close workspace 2. Closing a workspace with agents running waits for you to confirm.

Leave, switch and close a repo#

  • Back to home, or ⌘ShiftL, goes to the home screen. The repo stays open and its consoles keep running.
  • The repo chip beside it switches repos: open ones, recent ones, or Open repo.
  • Close closes the repo and always asks first; ⌘ShiftW asks only when agents are running in it or a studio has unsaved edits. Its boards are saved and its running agents stop; when the repo opens again they start a new session, with an offer to resume where the CLI supports it.
  • Symvibe reopens the last repo on launch. Turn that off with SettingsGeneralReopen last repo on launch.

How boards are saved#

  • Each workspace is a file in ~/Library/Application Support/Hypervibe/Boards. Changes are written about two seconds after you stop, never more than about seven seconds behind. Background workspaces save every minute, and everything is written when you quit.
  • Saved: the nodes, their places, sizes and contents. Not saved: a console's running process and its scrollback. Consoles start a new session on reopen, and those whose CLI can resume offer to pick their conversation back up; see Resume and quitting.
  • Nothing is overwritten without a copy. The previous version is kept, a snapshot is kept for each hour in which the board changed (the newest 24 stay), and boards that were cleared, closed or could not be read go to Boards/Archive and are never pruned.
  • A board saved by a newer version of Symvibe still opens and can be edited, but this version never saves it, so those changes are lost. Update the app before working on it.
Getting an old board back

Everything Symvibe archived is in Boards/Archive. If you need a board restored, write to hello@symvibe.com and we will walk you through it.

Repos in iCloud Drive#

When the open repo lives in iCloud Drive, a banner offers to move it to your projects folder: ~/symvibe unless you chose another during setup, or ~/hypervibe on a Mac that already has one. macOS can move iCloud files to the cloud, and git and agents then wait until they come back.

  • The move button copies the repo: it downloads whatever is still in iCloud, copies everything, then checks the file count and the git HEAD. The original is never deleted. With agents running, it asks to end them first.
  • Keep here stops asking for that repo. The close button asks again next time.

Keep going#
